Condolence: I had the privileged of working with Hugh at Ft. Mc Henry on several occasions. A working relationship developed into a personal friendship that Jane and I will treasure. Karen and Travis, we are so sorry for your loss, but you can take comfort that Hugh touched the lives of so many people and was loved. Mark & Jane Pollitt

Condolence: My sadness is shared with Karen, Travis and all of Hugh's family. Hugh was a good friend, having worked together at Guilford Courthouse NMP many years ago. Those were great times not forgotten.

Condolence: Thank you for your friendship and support Hugh, and my deepest sympathies to you Karen. I had the honor of working with Hugh, and of having meals with you both at your home, during my time at Fort McHenry from 2001 to 2005. Hugh and I saw a LOT together during this time.. it was my privilege to be a ranger with him. Heidi and I thank you both for your friendship and making us feel so welcome in Baltimore. I was glad he could retire after a successful career and hope it was joyful for him. Thanks so much for reaching out to his friends and coworkers. With love.... Charlie

Condolence: Dear Karen and Travis and Josette, Hugh has been my friend since 1989. He was my first friend in Maryland. He was a steady and faithful friend until the end. Through many changes in our lives, Hugh was always there. I will miss him so much. How many people can say they had a friend like Hugh? I am so sad at his suffering, and death, and my prayers go out to you, his beloved wife, Karen, and to you, his son, Travis. You were the light of his life. My sympathy also to you, his beloved sister, Josette Lester, the best sister a man could have. You are much like Hugh and a reminder here and now of the life of a great man. Condolence: Karen – We’ve never met (I was unable to attend the Ft. Necessity NB reunion August of 2014), but I want you to know how saddened I was to learn of Hugh’s passing. He and I worked together at Fort Necessity and Friendship Hill the summers of 1979 – 1982. Hugh and I even lived together my first summer with the Park Service in 1979. I have many wonderful memories of those summers and Hugh was a big part of that. The volleyball games, the homemade bread, the jambalaya, the CPR training, the living history military camps, and the many Park Service stories. He will be sorely missed by the many whose lives he touched. I being one of those. My thoughts and prayers are with you and the family during this most difficult of times.
